Use Your Strengths To Happify Your Life!
July 28, 2015 by Dr. Ryan Niemiec ·
Character strengths are positive traits, or capacities within us, that contribute to personal fulfillment and bring benefit of others. The science of character has boomed in the last decade as leading researchers and practitioners deepen the study of those core ingredients that are best in human beings. Since the “common language” of the VIA Classification emerged in 2004, research has linked character strengths with greater happiness, better healthy behaviors, improved relationships, and a variety of accomplishments.
Mindfulness is the self-regulation of attention while taking an attitude of curiosity, openness, and acceptance. While the science of character has been better in the last decade than any time in human history, the science of mindfulness has been even stronger with about 50 new scientific publications coming out each month. You can keep tabs on the volumes of mindfulness research as it emerges, thanks to the American Mindfulness Research Association.
Integration of Mindfulness and Character Strengths
The integration of these areas is new and is called mindfulness-based strengths practice (MBSP), and packs powerful benefits for well-being, positive relationships, and problem management.
