Frequently Asked Questions

Do different strengths come to the fore when we are faced with a challenging situation?

For some people, yes. When this occurs, we call this a “phasic” or “situational” strength. Chris Peterson once framed this as strengths that we “rise to the occasion” with. Someone having to deliver a presentation may bring their non-signature strengths of leadership and zest to the occasion. Someone encountering a person drowning, may bring forth the non-signature strengths of bravery and perseverance to the situation.
