Thank you for your interest in the VIA strengths and their measurement.
The scales have good reliability and accumulating validity, but we
continue to develop and refine them. To this end, we invite your
collaboration in the investigation of character strengths. Our goals
are to coordinate different research projects and to maintain a
broad overview and oversight of the work.
VIA Survey in Research Studies
The VIA Institute offers 3 versions of the VIA Survey for researchers:
The 120-question VIA Survey, 240-question VIA Survey and the
72-question VIA Survey. You may indicate which version of the survey

VIA Youth Survey (ages 10-17) in Research Studies
The VIA Institute offers 2 versions of the VIA Youth Survey for researchers:
The 96-question VIA Youth Survey and the 198-question VIA Youth Survey.
You may indicate which version of the survey you would like to use on the

If you are a researcher who is interested in such collaboration,
complete the Request Form to Use VIA Inventory of Strengths
(VIA Survey) in your research.
We want the VIA inventories to be used in their entirety, in
adequately-powered studies addressing novel issues, and with
research participants who can plausibly complete self-report surveys.
Subject to approval by VIA, researchers will be provided with a
research code whereby the subjects of the study can complete the
appropriate VIA Inventory on-line, and the data will then be provided
to the researcher.
