Mindfulness-Based Strengths Practice (MBSP) Part I + Learning to Lead MBSP (MBSP Part II) is a total of 12 weeks. The first 8 weeks is the cohesive, experiential MBSP program (based on Dr. Ryan Niemiec's popular book Mindfulness and Character Strengths: A Practical Guide to Flourishing) in which concepts and practices build from week to week. It builds from the basic principle that one needs to experience concepts before applying them. The follow-up 4-week program, Learning to Lead MBSP (MBSP Part II), is designed for those who want to lead MBSP in their unique setting.

MBSP brings together the latest science of mindfulness and character strengths into a practical program to help people flourish. It is grounded in a blending of experiential exercises, mindful living meditations, and dyad and group discussions. The practice of mindfulness can help people: improve their skill of strengths-spotting, focus on strengths in relationships, break through strengths blindness, and find the “golden mean of strengths” (i.e., strengths expression that balances overuse and underuse and is sensitive to context). Character strengths, in turn, can be used to overcome common obstacles that emerge when developing mindfulness and serve to “supercharge” both mindful living and formal mindfulness meditation.

MBSP II explicitly covers strategies/tips for leading MBSP, reviews MBSP cases, and facilitates discussions among participants about progress, pitfalls, and strategies used with their particular population. At the end of these 4 sessions, participants will have greater knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to effectively lead others through MBSP.
